Jobs at Risk — and the Few That Will Survive

One of the first groups to feel AI’s impact will be taxi and truck drivers. With self-driving vehicles quickly becoming a reality, the transportation industry is heading toward major change. Autonomous cars and trucks can already navigate roads, detect obstacles, and follow routes with impressive precision. As these technologies improve, the demand for human drivers will decline — meaning far fewer people behind the wheel in the years to come.

Still, Gates points out that not every job can be replaced by a robot. In his view, only three key roles will remain uniquely human — ones that depend on emotional intelligence, creativity, and genuine connection. While the machines may take over repetitive tasks, there will always be a need for people who can imagine, inspire, and care in ways no algorithm ever could.
