Fetterman’s Bold Move in the Shutdown Standoff

Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has once again broken from his party’s usual playbook, making headlines with an unexpected stance during the ongoing government shutdown. Known for his plain-spoken style and independence within the Democratic ranks, Fetterman told reporters he would support Republicans in using the “nuclear option” — eliminating the Senate filibuster — to pass legislation reopening the government.

As the shutdown entered its fourth week, critical programs like SNAP (food assistance) were nearing exhaustion. “People are going to start to get really hungry,” Fetterman said. “This is bad political theater. Open it up.”
