Hollywood is mourning the loss of Diane Ladd, the acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated actress and beloved mother of Laura Dern, who passed away peacefully at her home in Ojai, California, at the age of 89.

In a heartfelt statement shared with PEOPLE, Laura Dern confirmed the news, saying, “My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother, Diane Ladd, passed with me beside her this morning, at her home in Ojai, Calif. She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist, and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”

Diane Ladd’s remarkable career spanned more than seven decades, with over 200 film and television credits to her name. She earned three Academy Award nominations for her unforgettable performances in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974), Wild at Heart (1990), and Rambling Rose (1991), showcasing her extraordinary range and emotional depth.
