It started as an ordinary morning. I stepped into the yard to water the flowers and check if the cats had made their usual mess. But the moment I opened the gate, a terrible stench hit me—so strong it made my chest tighten and left a metallic taste in my mouth.
I took a few cautious steps, then froze. Something was moving near the flowerbed. 🫣
On the ground lay something slimy, red, and oddly shaped—as if it had been turned inside out. The smell was unbearable, like rotting flesh. My heart pounded as panic set in.
“What is that?” I whispered. “A larva? Some kind of creature? The remains of an animal—or worse?”
Trying not to gag, I grabbed my phone, snapped a photo, and searched online for answers. When I typed in “red slimy, rotten-smelling mushroom,” the results made my stomach drop.
