A 101-Year-Old Woman Who Refuses to Retire

Getting older is a natural part of life, but retirement isn’t for everyone. Just ask 101-year-old Ann Angeletti from New Jersey. She still works six days a week and has shared the four key things she does every day to stay alert and active.

Ann has been running her jewelry store, Curiosity Jewelers, in Cresskill, New Jersey, since 1964—and she has no plans to stop. The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on her sixth workday, she drives about 30 minutes to New York City’s diamond district.

“If I retire, I would die. So I cannot stay home,” Ann told ABC 7. Work has always been a cornerstone of her life. As a child, she helped out at her family’s grocery store in Brooklyn. During World War II, she worked at a Navy Yard and later became a waitress. Her career took a major turn in 1964 when she opened her jewelry store—and she hasn’t looked back since.
