A Clever Solution and an Unexpected Apology
That night, I bought a harmless pet scent spray — one designed to attract animals. I lightly applied it along the base of the fence, curious to see what might happen. Within days, the once-pristine structure became the main attraction for curious raccoons, squirrels, and neighborhood cats. Seth looked more confused (and exhausted) by the day as he tried to chase away his new “visitors.”
By the end of the week, he showed up at my door — tired, apologetic, and finally ready to talk. “I’m sorry,” he admitted. “I shouldn’t have built it without asking.” To my surprise, he offered to remove the fence immediately.
When the panels came down, my boys cheered as the forest view returned — wide, open, and ours again. Seth and I actually ended the day shaking hands, both understanding each other a little better.
The whole experience taught me something I’ll never forget: sometimes, standing your ground doesn’t require shouting or lawsuits. Sometimes, it just takes calm persistence — and a little cleverness — to remind people where the true boundaries lie.
