The Wedding That Took an Unexpected Turn

My wife, Sarah, and I were genuinely excited to attend my friend Tom’s intimate wedding. It was the kind of warm, close-knit celebration that makes you feel part of something special — only about seventy guests, mostly family and lifelong friends. The ceremony was heartfelt, the decorations were beautiful, and the energy in the room was full of joy and laughter.

After the vows, everyone moved to the reception area, where a buffet dinner awaited. The setup looked amazing, and we could already smell the delicious food wafting from the serving tables. Guests were called up in groups, starting with family — which seemed perfectly fair. But as time went on, we noticed that some people were going up for seconds while others hadn’t been called yet.

By the time our table was finally invited, the buffet looked completely picked over. Trays were nearly empty, and most of the good dishes were gone. We tried to laugh it off, scraping together small portions of what was left. Someone at our table, trying to lighten the mood, joked, “Maybe we should just order pizza!”

At first, it was funny — but then it became a real idea. Everyone chipped in, and before long, we’d placed an order for several pizzas to share with our table and a few others who had also missed out on dinner. When they arrived, people laughed, smiled, and finally got to eat something. It felt like we had saved the night — or so we thought.
