Through Sickness and Still in Love: Jay Leno’s Quiet Devotion to His Wife

When Mavis’s diagnosis became public, Jay Leno quietly sought legal conservatorship — not for control, but for care. Her lawyer confirmed that Mavis agreed fully, adding she was “receiving excellent care with her husband, Mr. Leno.”

At 75, Jay made it clear he had no intention of leaving her side. He continued working, but his heart and focus remained at home. During an appearance at the Love Ride charity event in November 2025, Leno opened up about what life looks like now.

“I’ve been very lucky in my life,” he told People Magazine. “My wife is fighting dementia and all that, but it’s not cancer. It’s not a tumor, so I enjoy taking care of her. It’s not work. People say they feel sorry for me, and I understand that, but it’s okay. I like taking care of her. I enjoy her company, and we have a good time. We have fun with it — it is what it is.”

He smiled softly as he added, “I’m very lucky. As soon as this ride’s over, I’m going home to make her lunch.”

For Jay, love has never been about perfection or ease — it’s about devotion, loyalty, and gratitude. Through laughter, challenge, and now illness, he continues to show the same quiet strength that made Mavis fall in love with him all those years ago.

“I enjoy her company,” he said. “That’s never changed.”
