Despite announcing a reduction in his cancer treatment regimen starting in the new year, King Charles III has decided not to disclose the type of cancer he has, following advice from medical experts.
In a recorded message broadcast on the evening of December 12th as part of Channel 4’s “Stand Up To Cancer” program, the British King once again candidly shared his journey in battling cancer. The 77-year-old said the cancer diagnosis had initially “shocked” him, emphasizing the vital importance of early detection. He also offered a positive sign, stating that his cancer treatment schedule would be reduced in the new year, thanks to his positive response to medical interventions and adherence to his doctor’s instructions.
King Charles III called this a personal milestone, and a testament to the significant advances in cancer treatment in recent years, hoping to inspire those who are facing or will face this disease.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the king’s recovery is progressing well, but avoided using the term “remission”. Since being diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, he is believed to have undergone weekly treatments.

Despite being more open about his health, King Charles III has never specifically revealed the type of cancer he has. According to Buckingham Palace, this was a deliberate choice by the King and his advisors. A royal spokesperson said that cancer experts recommended that King Charles III not focus on his personal condition, but rather speak out for the wider community of patients, in order to send a broader and more inclusive message.
The Palace also affirmed that the King’s cancer diagnosis was unrelated to his previous treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia, and confirmed that he does not have prostate cancer.

In his message, King Charles III used colorectal cancer as an example to illustrate the importance of early detection, as survival rates drop sharply if the disease is detected at a late stage. He also mentioned the new Screening Checker tool, which helps people check their eligibility for breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer screenings.
Officials said that mentioning specific types of cancer was not meant to be personal or directly related to the royal family. Previously, King Charles III’s daughter-in-law, Princess Kate Middleton of Wales, announced she was in cancer remission in early 2025 after treatment.
Sharing more about the family’s difficult period, Prince William admitted that both his father and wife receiving cancer diagnoses in a short period of time was the biggest shock of his life, making 2023-2024 the most challenging time for the royal family.
