The Call That Changed Everything

I got a call from the school nurse about my son, Leo. My adrenaline surged instantly — a primal urge to protect him at all costs. His small face was already marked with fear and pain, and I swore to erase it.

“Mr. Jensen, please let us handle this,” the nurse urged, sensing the storm brewing beneath my calm exterior. But she didn’t understand — no one would touch my son and walk away unscathed.

I knelt in front of Leo, looking into his eyes. “You’re safe now. I’m going to make sure you’re always safe, okay?”

He nodded, trust absolute. That trust fueled every ounce of my resolve. Turning to the nurse and principal, I said, “I need to handle this. Keep him here. No one picks him up except me.”

Driving home, each second felt like an eternity. The thought of my brother — someone who should have been a figure of safety — being a threat to my child made my blood run cold.
