In the aftermath of the UPS crash, emergency crews worked through the night battling fires and containing hazardous materials near the airport.
The shelter-in-place order has now been reduced to a quarter-mile radius around 7501 Grade Lane, the city’s hazardous waste drop-off site.
Officials reassured residents that air and water remain safe, but urged those living near the airport not to drink tap water until further testing is completed.
Hospitals across the city have been overwhelmed with victims, with thirteen people treated and released from UofL Health and two remaining in critical condition in the ICU.
The NTSB, FAA, and local authorities continue to investigate the exact sequence of mechanical failures that led to the disaster.
As Louisville mourns, vigils are being organized across the city to honor the victims — especially the families of those still unaccounted for.
The mayor closed his latest briefing with a plea:
“Please keep the victims, their families, and our first responders in your prayers.” 🙏
