Once known as the confident, silver-haired “McSteamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, Eric Dane is now facing the toughest role of his life — battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare and incurable disease that slowly robs the body of its strength.
Recently spotted in Washington D.C. in a wheelchair, the 52-year-old actor appeared frail but determined, accompanied by close friends and his wife, Rebecca Gayheart. His quiet courage has left fans both inspired and devastated.
According to insiders, Dane has been struggling with the physical toll of the illness, now losing movement in one arm and fearing the same for the other. Despite this, he remains committed to advocacy, faith, and family.
“He wants to live life and not have people grieve him while he’s still here,” a source shared. “Eric is doing everything he can to stay positive and be surrounded by love.”
Behind closed doors, his family is doing the same. Rebecca, who reconciled with Dane after their 2018 split, admitted that their daughters, ages 13 and 15, are “really suffering” as they adjust to a heartbreaking new reality.
“We’re just trying to hold on with grace and hope,” she said. “It’s the hardest thing we’ve ever faced.”
