A tragic accident in California has left families devastated and Tesla under scrutiny. On November 27, 2024, 19-year-old Krysta Tsukahara was trapped and burned alive after a Tesla Cybertruck crashed into a retaining wall. Two of her friends, Soren Dixon, 19, and Jack Nelson, 20, also died in the fiery crash, while a fourth passenger, Jordan Miller, survived thanks to a Good Samaritan who smashed a window and pulled him from the burning vehicle.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Dixon, the driver, had meth, cocaine, and a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit. Autopsies showed Tsukahara and Nelson also had alcohol and cocaine in their systems.
Krysta survived the initial crash with minor injuries, but according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her parents, she was unable to escape the locked Cybertruck, dying from smoke inhalation and severe burns. The lawsuit claims the vehicle’s electrical door system failed, preventing both Krysta and a rescuer from opening the door during the fire.
What happened next has families suing Tesla — find out why in Part 2
