Transgender Americans Could ‘Flee the Country’ Following Trump’s Record as ‘Most Anti-LGBTQ+ President’

Transgender Americans are increasingly thinking about leaving the United States, citing growing hostility toward their rights. Many see President Donald Trump as the “most anti-LGBTQ+ president in history.”

During Trump’s 2024 campaign, his rhetoric intensified against what he called “radical gender ideology” and “transgender insanity.” Television ads often framed it as a stark choice: “Kamala is for they/them. Trump is for you.” As his second term unfolds, critics note that attacks on transgender rights have grown sharper and more virulent, leaving many in the LGBTQ+ community feeling unsafe and unsupported.

Katie Sosin, an LGBTQ+ reporter for The 19th, emphasized that transgender issues are central to Trump’s policy agenda. “Trump is generally viewed as the most anti-LGBTQ+ president in history, and a lot of that stems from his approach to transgender issues,” she said.
