A Trailblazer in Film and Theatre Remembered
Born in New York City, Sally Kirkland trained at the Actors Studio and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, becoming an early fixture of the city’s Off-Broadway and avant-garde art scene in the 1960s — including work alongside Andy Warhol’s Factory.
Her breakthrough came in 1987 with the film Anna, earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama.
Across her remarkable career, Kirkland appeared in more than 200 films and television shows, including JFK, Bruce Almighty, and the hit sitcom Roseanne.
