ICE Agent Held in Contempt After Arresting Defendant During Boston Trial

Boston, MA — Tension erupted inside a Boston courthouse after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent detained a defendant during an active trial, prompting an immediate and severe response from the judge.
According to reports, ICE agent Brian Sullivan intercepted Wilson Martell-Lebron as he exited the courtroom, arresting him before he could return to continue his trial. The unexpected action halted the proceedings and stunned both the defense and prosecution.
Boston Municipal Court Judge Mark Summerville called the arrest a direct challenge to the authority and integrity of the court. “This is a violation of a defendant’s right to be present at trial and to confront witnesses against him,” Summerville declared. “It could not be more serious.”
