Armed Woman Shot by Law Enforcement in Chicago

On Saturday morning, law enforcement shot at an armed woman on Chicago’s Southwest Side after multiple cars reportedly “rammed” and “boxed in” officers, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official. The incident occurred near 39th Place and S. Kedzie Avenue in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the officers were trapped by the cars, forcing them to exit their vehicles. One individual involved was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. McLaughlin stated that officers fired defensive shots at the woman, who was injured but drove herself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was treated and released. Two people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident.

McLaughlin also claimed the woman had been named in a recent Customs and Border Patrol intelligence bulletin for allegedly posting threats online. She said no officers were seriously injured and accused the Chicago Police Department of leaving the scene and refusing to assist federal authorities.
